Role:

The Office Manager / Researcher will conduct research and provide administrative support for the North East Asia Deputy Project Director.

Responsibilities:

75% Research Assistance:

Conduct research into North and South Korean security affairs and foreign policy, as assigned by the Deputy Project Director;
Assist in the drafting and editing of detailed policy reports, setting out relevant research findings and policy recommendations, exploring appropriate means of alleviating the underlying causes of tension and conflict;
Assemble relevant material including press reports, interviews, government data, documents, and reports, and seminars;
Write summary reports of forums, symposia, and conferences;
Monitor and summarize current developments;
Attend meetings with or on behalf of the Deputy Project Director as requested;
Work with Crisis Group’s Beijing office to assist with work related to Korea-related issues as they affect North East Asia, as assigned by the Deputy Project Director.
25 % Office management:

Ensure that financial records are kept up to date, pay bills, submit accounting records to the head office in Brussels, maintain an accurate record of transactions, and undertake banking duties as necessary;
Coordinate the translation and distribution of Crisis Group reports, and maintain the computerized distribution list;
Oversee the efficient functioning of the office and keep office records up to date;
Maintain subscriptions to relevant newspapers and electronic news and information services;
Provide some assistance to Crisis Group staff members with appointments.

Requirements:

MA or ABD (PhD candidate) in international affairs or related area with emphasis on Korean politics and foreign policy preferred;
1 – 3 years of relevant experience;
Background and understanding of international affairs with knowledge of Korean politics and foreign policy;
Superior writing and editing skills;
Strong research skills;
Excellent oral and written communication skills;
Proactive, well organized, and able to work as part of a team as well as independently;
Experience living and/or working in Korea;
Native-level proficiency in English and fluency in Korean;
Japanese language skills would be useful but not required.
