JOB CONTEXT:
Since 2005 Handicap International – Nepal Programme has been implementing the project ‘Access to Physical Rehabilitation Services for People with Disabilities in Nepal that aims to provide the best possible opportunity to people with disabilities for their full and effective participation and inclusion in the society.
The project supports five Physical Rehabilitation Centres and three Satellite Units across the country. All of the Centres have a physiotherapy department and a fully equipped orthopaedic workshop as well as qualified physiotherapy and orthopaedic staff. The Satellite Units have qualified physiotherapists providing treatment and referrals to the Centres for P&O devices when required.
The project’s focus is on strengthening technical, institutional and managerial capacities of the partner organizations to ensure sustainability of physical rehabilitation services in Nepal
JOB DESCRIPTION:
Based in Kathmandu with regular travels on the field, under the responsibility of the Rehabilitation Project Coordinator (RPC), the Prosthetics and Orthotics Advisor will be responsible for coordinating the P&O technical side of the project and overseeing the work of all P&Os and their teams.
The P&O Advisor will be directly responsible for the 5 Prosthetists/Orthotists. All 5 staffs are field based stationed within the Rehabilitation Centres operated by partner organisations and supported by HI.
The key responsibilities of the P&O Advisor include:
- To manage, support, supervise and coordinate the prosthetic and orthotic components of the physical rehabilitation project supported by HI to achieve the indicators and other project’s targets
- To advise and support partners and the RPC
- To carry out regular technical, quality, training needs analysis in P&O and provide or coordinate necessary formal and on-the-job training
- To develop and maintain a holistic rehabilitation approach, ensuring proper team work between P&O, Physio and CBR components
- To provide support, expertise, assistance to rehabilitation project coordinator on all aspects related to P&O/CBR for effective project implementation, design of strategic and methodological orientations. Support the development of procedures for P&O departments and any publication related to project
- To support in close coordination with rehab project coordinator the development of P&O profession in Nepal and service provider network in Nepal.
CANDIDATE PROFILE:
- ISPO category I or equivalent qualifications in Prosthetics and Orthotics
- Proven track record in coordination of P&O in development context; minimum 5 years of practical experience
- Experience in designing and delivering training to Prosthetists and Orthotists
- Proven experience of working holistically and within a multidisciplinary team in the field of rehabilitation
REQUIRED LANGUAGE SKILLS: Advanced oral and written English mandatory
JOB ENVIRONMENT:
Though the security situation is good, staff needs to remain vigilant. However, life in Kathmandu is comfortable allowing a wide range of cultural and leisure activities. Shops and commodities are available.
The position is based in Kathmandu but requires 50% of working time travelling and on the field.
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS:
Volunteer: 750 or 850 Euros monthly indemnity + living allowance paid on the field + accommodation + 100% medical cover + repatriation insurance + Family policy
