About the Role
Amnesty International needs a researcher as part of the International Secretariat to take the lead responsibility for initiating strategy and a programme of human rights research and action on discrimination in Europe and Central Asia, by providing thematic expertise, research skills and sound political judgement. The initial focus will be on discrimination on the grounds of ethnicity, religion and sexual orientation and gender identity. This post will be based in either London or Brussels but London is preferred at this time.

Working as part of the Europe and Central Asia Programme, you will monitor, investigate and analyze political, legal and social developments and human rights conditions relating to discrimination, give authoritative advice on these areas, investigate and document cases and patterns of human rights abuses; and produce country based and thematic reports.


About You
You will need proven research experience, first hand working experience or research knowledge of discrimination related issues, excellent understanding of human rights standards, particularly in relation do discrimination, and sound political judgement.

In addition to your specialist knowledge you will need an understanding of the cultures of the region, to be impartial, have the ability to think strategically, have experience of working as part of a team and, preferably, experience of collaborating with other researchers.

You will have excellent writing skills and experience of analysing complex political and social situations, interviewing for information and summarizing research information into a concise and useable form. You will need the ability to liaise effectively and sensitively with other organisations and represent AI to the government and media.

Fluent written and spoken English and is essential. Knowledge of French and at least one other European language is highly desirable.
