SUMMARY

ChildFund International works in 31 countries helping over 15 million excluded and vulnerable children living in poverty have the capacity to become young adults, parents and leaders who bring lasting and positive change to their communities. Established in 1938, ChildFund raised over $218 million in 2009 through major and planned gifts, sponsorships, gifts-in-kind and corporate support.

The Regional Development Officer will play an important role in strengthening the major gifts program for ChildFund International. S/he works with organization leaders, board members and other stakeholders to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward individual donors for major and planned gifts for an assigned region. S/he creates and implements strategy and manages projects to engage donors and further fundraising success in her/his region.

Duties Include:

• Develop relationships and networks to generate five-, six- and seven-figure opportunities from major gifts, planned giving and corporate partnerships to benefit ChildFund International.
• Cultivate, solicit and provide attentive stewardship for philanthropic donors.
• Manage portfolio of 200+ high-level prospects, using focused, strategic approaches. Create and implement regional strategy for revenue generation.
• Build on an existing set of relationships as well as increase the number and quality of major donor prospects through individual visits, research, donor database management, networking and cultivation.
• Work with marketing and program staff to customize materials for successful marketing, solicitation and cultivation of major donors.
• Work with ChildFund staff to respond to donors’ questions and requests.
• Manage regional donor events, including identifying guests and coordinating organizational support for events.
• Travel with major donors overseas for visits to National Offices and tours of program areas in ChildFund countries.
• Achieve $1 million annual revenue goal and assist in meeting departmental goals.

Required Experience:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
• Passion for the mission of helping vulnerable children throughout the world.
• 5-10 years demonstrated experience managing and implementing a comprehensive fund development program and producing charitable contributions, preferably with an international development organization.
• Proven success personally making asks, and securing five- and six-figure gifts.
• Proven experience working with executive-level volunteers and professionals.
• Ability to influence people and present a compelling case for philanthropic support.
• Ability to work effectively and independently in a highly energetic and multiple-engagement environment; a strong work initiative, and the ability to adapt to new challenges and ideas.
• Superior communications (written/verbal) and presentation skills with internal and external stakeholders.
• Ability to travel.
• History of successfully achieving fund development goals.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE
• Proven experience in developing corporate revenue, from both foundations and cause marketing alliances.
