Merlin (Medical Emergency Relief International) USA based in Washington D.C. invites applications for the new position of Executive Director. Merlin USA is a charitable organization whose objectives mirror those of Merlin UK (an independent UK registered charity established in 1993).

Those objectives are: saving lives in times of crisis and helping to rebuild shattered health services by working within existing health systems to realize everyone's right to accessible, appropriate and affordable health care. Although formed in 1998, it was not until 2008 that Merlin USA opened its first office in Washington, DC and began to build relationships with humanitarian and major donor networks in America.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Merlin seeks a dynamic, innovative Executive Director with the capacity to think strategically and the ability to build an integrated, effective office from scratch.

The Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of Merlin USA, including: soliciting funds for program growth, public outreach, advocacy, organizational development and administration.

The Executive Director will serve as the face of Merlin USA and strongly position the organization in the US market. He/she will assure that the organization is well-managed and positioned for aggressive growth. This person must be willing to build and manage an effective internal team, as well as to develop the board of directors and an advisory board.

QUALIFICATIONS: A minimum of 5-10 years of management experience working in a health, medical or other relevant field is required. The ideal candidate is a passionate, articulate communicator with an entrepreneurial approach and spirit who is genuinely committed to advancing Merlin USA’s mission and programs. He/she is a successful relationship-builder who has a proven track record of working comfortably and effectively with a non-profit Board of Directors and strong experience in fundraising, budget oversight and organizational management. Availability to travel is necessary.
