We do this by providing various types of support to these social enterprises, including:

Our employees are currently staffed in 14 countries around the world. For FY2011, Teach For All is anticipating adding an additional 14 country programs to our network and growing to a budget of approximately $13 million.

Position
Reporting to the Vice President, Strategy and Administration (VP), the Director of Finance (DOF) will be responsible for oversight of all finance, accounting, and reporting activities. The DOF will be involved in supporting financial presentations to the board and will work closely with the senior leadership team. S/he must be able to adapt to a continually evolving and fast-paced environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace.
The DOF will lead all day-to-day finance operations and supervise a team of three staff members (one to be hired in FY11), including functional responsibility over accounting, grants management, budget development, forecast and monitoring, outside audit and federal financial reports, international and domestic taxes, international and domestic payrolls and financial policies and procedures. The DOF will ensure that Teach For All has the systems and procedures in place to support rapid growth and conduct flawless audits. The DOF will work closely with senior leadership and their staffs on planning and analysis and to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures.
In addition, s/he will partner with the VP to plan for the evolution of the finance function to support a growing international presence with regional hubs and additional international payrolls, banking and taxation. The DOF will also partner with the Human Assets (HA) and Information Technology (IT) staff to enhance and better integrate Finance, HA, and IT functions.
Responsibilities
Finance
• Oversee cash flow planning, ensure availability of funds and cash management.
• Oversee financing strategies and activities, as well as banking relationships internationally.
• Develop and utilize forward-looking, predictive models and activity-based financial analyses to provide insight into the organization’s operations and plans.
• Perform financial analysis as requested by the VP.
Planning, Policy and Investor Relations
• Develop and monitor budgets and forecasts. Assist Teach For All’s leadership in the annual budgeting and mid-year reforecast process; administer and review all financial plans on a monthly basis and compare to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
• Develop short-, medium-, and long-term financial plans and projections.
• Assist the VP with fiscal policy development.
• Remain up to date on nonprofit audit best practices and international state and federal law regarding nonprofit operations.
• Represent the organization to financial partners, including financial institutions, investors, auditors, etc.
• Support the VP in preparing financial updates and presentations to the board.
Accounting and Administration
• Oversee all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
• Maintain internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, and program budgets and actual expenditures. Help ensure maintenance of fiscal policies and procedures.
• Consistently analyze financial data and present financial reports in an accurate and timely manner; clearly communicate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements; monitor progress and changes and keep senior leadership abreast of Teach For All’s financial status.
• Coordinate all audit activity and proper filing of tax returns in all applicable countries.
• Coordinate activities between development and finance.
• Oversee all financial, project/program, and grants accounting; ensure that expenditures are consistently aligned with grant and program budgets throughout the grant/fund period; collate financial reporting materials for international and domestic governmental agencies, corporate, and foundation grants.
• Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with the program vice presidents; continuously collaborate with program vice presidents to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations.
• Ensure legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial functions.
Team Leadership
• Leverage strengths of the current Finance team members, develop and train them in order to maximize and reach optimal individual and organizational goals.
• Provide leadership in strengthening internal communications with staff at all levels throughout the organization; create and promote a positive and supportive work environment.
Qualifications
This is an extraordinary opportunity for a mature leader with at least eight to 10 years of accounting and finance experience followed by experience gathering, evaluating, presenting, and reporting financial information to executive teams and external stakeholders. S/he will ideally have experience growing and scaling the finance (accounting, budgeting, control, and reporting) function for a complex international NGO that has multiple programs and field offices. Other qualifications include:
• Personal qualities of integrity, credibility, and unwavering commitment to Teach For All’s mission; a proactive, hands-on strategic thinker who will own, in partnership with the VP, the responsibility for finance;
• Minimum of a BA; CPA and/or MBA preferred;
• At least four years experience as a DOF or equivalent, preferably in an international NGO with a budget of at least $10 million;
• Strong forecasting skills; experience in modeling and forecasting complex operating models required;
• A track record in grants management as it relates to compliance and reporting of international and domestic government agencies, corporate, and foundation grants is essential;
• Experience in designing project budgets and budget narratives for funding proposals;
• Significant experience in or knowledge of nonprofit accounting, including sophisticated fund and grant accounting, compliance, and reporting;
• Solid experience coordinating audit activities and managing reporting, budget development, and analysis, accounts payable and receivable, general ledger, and payrolls in multiple countries;
• Keen analytic, organization, and problem solving skills, which allows for strategic data interpretation vs. simple reporting;
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills; experience in effectively communicating key data, including presentations to senior management, board, or other outside partners;
• Ability and desire to translate complex financial concepts to individuals at all levels including finance and non-finance managers;
• Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills, plus excellent organization skills;
• High level proficiency in Excel
• Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installations and managing relationships with software vendors; advanced knowledge of accounting and reporting software.
