The Rainforest Alliance is an international nonprofit organization that works to conserve biodiversity and ensure sustainable livelihoods by transforming land-use practices, business practices and consumer behavior. Based in New York City, with offices throughout the United States and worldwide, the Rainforest Alliance works with people whose livelihoods depend on the land, helping them transform the way they grow food, harvest wood and host travelers.
Position Summary:
The Foundation and Corporate Relations Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Institutional Giving’s department to raise money from foundation and corporate funding sources for Rainforest Alliance programs. S/he will track and mail donor materials, research prospective donors and track and acknowledge donor gifts. S/he will also provide general administrative support to the Foundations & Corporate Relations team.
Responsibilities:
• Research foundation and corporate funding sources for Rainforest Alliance programs and general support, make program matches and compile prospect lists for new programs and projects;
• Maintain Raisers Edge donor tracking system, ensuring that actions are entered for upcoming proposals and reports;
• Write grant acknowledgments and emails to staff announcing grants;
• Mail, file and track proposals, letters of inquiry, reports, and concept papers;
• Maintain a list of meeting prospects by region and schedule and confirm prospect meetings, create profiles and assemble informational packets;
• Assist in meeting follow up, including compiling meeting minutes, entering contact information into database, drafting thank you letters, and entering tasks into the database;
• Coordinate cultivation briefings and brown bag presentations for current donors and prospects;
• Liaise with Finance and Accounting, as well as other development areas and programs to ensure that gifts are properly acknowledged, coded and recorded;
• Track grant agreements and contracts, working with Development, Legal and program staff to ensure that contracts are processed and recorded; and
• Other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree required;
• 1-3 year of experience;
• Must have excellent writing skills, including ability to write to different audiences;
• Excellent research skills;
• Strong computer skills (Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint);
• Excellent interpersonal skills;
• Experience/knowledge of international environment and/or community development issues preferred;
• Must be detail oriented, resourceful, and able to work under tight deadlines; ability to follow directions and work independently; and
• Spanish proficiency a plus.
