VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
THE AFRICAN REINSURANCE CORPORATION (AFRICA RE) IS ANNOUNCING A VACANCY FOR THE POSITION OF DEPUTY MANAGING DIRECTOR / CHIEF OPERATING OFFICER
Africa-Re is an international financial institution established by member States of the African Union (A.U.) and the African Development Bank, with equity participation by more than 105 insurance/reinsurance companies, the International Finance Corporation (IFC), DEG (Germany), FMO (Holland) and PROPARCO (France). It is headquartered in Lagos, Federal Republic of Nigeria, and has regional offices in Lagos, Casablanca (Morocco), Nairobi (Kenya), Abidjan (Côte d’Ivoire), Port Louis (Mauritius) and Cairo (Egypt) as well as two subsidiaries in Johannesburg (South Africa) and Cairo (Africa Retakaful - Egypt). The working languages of the Corporation are English and French.
1. Interested candidates with the minimum qualifications and conditions laid down below are requested to send their applications to the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Corporation to the address indicated hereunder. Applications should be accompanied by a passport photograph and detailed curriculum vitae indicating the academic and professional qualifications as well as job experience of the applicant, especially at top management level.
2. Applicants must fulfil the following conditions:
Must be nationals of member States of the African Reinsurance Corporation.
Should be at least 40 years old and less than 55 years.
Must have mastery of English and/or French. A good knowledge of the other language and one or more of the AU working languages would be an advantage.
Should have no interest in any insurance or reinsurance company or brokerage firm that could affect their objectivity in running the Corporation.
This condition shall apply prior to the appointment as well as throughout the term of office.

3. Functions and Qualifications
The Deputy Managing Director shall coordinate the operations (reinsurance acceptances and retrocession) of the Corporation at the Headquarters and in the production centres. He shall be answerable to the Managing Director and must be highly competent in the field of insurance/reinsurance, administration and
management.
Education: A university degree in a relevant discipline and a postgraduate professional qualification. A higher qualification in insurance and reinsurance, administration and business management will be an advantage.
Professional Experience: A minimum of 10 years experience in relevant fields, 5 of which should be at top management level, preferably in a multi-national or insurance and/or reinsurance institution.
4. Term of Office
The term of office of the Deputy Managing Director is five years and can be renewed. However, the Board of Directors can relieve him of his duties upon the Managing Director’s proposition subject to a notice of six months.
5. Status, Privileges, Exemptions and Immunities
If the Deputy Managing Director is not a Nigerian citizen, he shall enjoy the same status, privileges, exemptions and immunities the Federal Government of Nigeria grants diplomatic chargé d’affaires and other international organizations. The same privileges, exemptions and immunities are extended to members of his
family.
6. Basic Salary
The basic salary is very attractive and is comparable to what obtains in similar international financial organisations.
7. Other conditions of service
Other fringe benefits include installation allowance, entertainment allowance, family allowance, education grants for children, refund of medical and pharmaceutical expenses etc.
The Deputy Managing Director is also given an accommodation in the Head Office location and an official car.
