Health and Nutrition Coordinator, Darfur
12 month contract (unaccompanied post)
£27,726 per annum
HelpAge International helps older people claim their rights, challenge discrimination and overcome poverty, so that they can lead dignified, secure, active and healthy lives. Health related activities in Sudan to date include organizing ‘Mobile eye clinics’ in IDP camps, establishing a medical referral system for older people in camps through community health workers and donkey-cart ambulances, and a nutrition programme covering supplementary and complimentary feeding activities and awareness raising on balanced diets.
The health and nutrition coordinator will be responsible for the implementation and supervision of all health and nutrition activities included in HelpAge Darfur programme. S/he will take a leading role in the international agency community in Darfur in the protection and promotion of older people’s health and nutrition within the framework of the current crisis. S/he will develop a clear health strategy for the Darfur programme for the next 1-2 years and help build the capacity of local staff to deliver this strategy.
With a degree in nutrition or health management and with demonstrated experience in public health, the ideal candidate will have extensive and intensive experience of managing health and nutrition programmes in emergency contexts, including staff management and capacity development. Skilled in needs assessment and programme development and in establishing health and nutrition related monitoring systems, they will have superb influencing and advocacy. Experience of working in Africa, particularly in insecure or highly sensitive political environments, and a good level of written and spoken English are essential for this post.
