ABOUT ACCORD
The African Centre for the Constructive Resolution of Disputes (ACCORD) is committed to the prevention, management and transformation of political conflicts in Africa. ACCORD’s primary aim is to influence political developments across the continent by encouraging conflict resolution and dialogue as an alternative to armed violence and protracted conflict. ACCORD runs interventions in the area of peacemaking, peacekeeping and peacebuilding and creates knowledge from good practices of intervening in conflicts across Africa.

ACCORD is recruiting for a Coordinator in the Knowledge Production Department (KPD). This department is responsible for producing knowledge that is relevant to conflict management practitioners, governments, civil society and organisations. It also provides, through its publications, a learning platform for the exchange of knowledge, ideas and research.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
The overall task of the Coordinator is to coordinate the implementation of all initiatives in KPD by contributing to the development of strategic and operational plans; and synchronising, organising and monitoring KPD activities according to its institutional mandate and workplans. Specifically, s/he will:

1. Contribute to and coordinate the strategic and operational planning of the department.

2. Day to day management of the co-ordination, planning, implementation and monitoring of outputs delivered by the Knowledge Production Department. This includes coordination of the operational aspect of research, publications, and organisational processes and procedures; the development of detailed implementation plans; preparation of narrative and financial reports for the Department; contribution to policy formulation; and administrative management of the department.

3. Manage staff responsible for implementation of activities by supervision and performance management of all subordinates; selection, placement and evaluation of staff and interns; and delegation of duties.

4. Coordinate, monitor, review, and report on the department’s finances by coordinating the annual budget development process; monitoring and tracking of budgets and reporting to the department Manager.

5. Contribute to research, policy development and publications by researching, writing and co-authoring published outputs; establish and maintain networks with partners globally and representing ACCORD at external fora as and when required.

Skills and competencies:
• Post-graduate degree (Masters) in Social Sciences/Conflict Management or Political Science or similar field.
• Extensive knowledge and familiarity with the planning, coordination and implementation of research and policy activities, with the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently.
• Substantive knowledge and writing experience of the field of conflict resolution that integrates policy, practice and research and addresses emerging issues in peace and security.
• Excellent communication and networking skills in English
• Intermediate to advanced IT skills (MS Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook)
• Proven decision-making and leadership skills
• Excellent attention to detail, prioritization, delegation and decision-making skills.

MINIMUM PERIOD OF EXPERIENCE/ TRAINING
Five years experience in a similar environment including at least three years project or general management experience.
