Job description:

This exciting role is part of the core team at the Humanitarian Futures Programme (HFP), an independent research programme which helps humanitarian organisations prepare for future crises.

The successful candidate will be part of a dynamic, innovative research programme that works directly with governments, United Nations agencies, and non-governmental organisations in developed and developing countries.

You will be responsible for overall coordination of HFP initiatives, which will include research management functions as well as policy development and programme management.

As well as having responsibility for oversight of financial and project management of HFP projects, the post holder will work with the Programme Director to contribute to programme’s strategic planning, fundraising, methodology and new project development. The post holder will also play a key role in supporting quality control of research outputs, and in coordinating the collection of learning and synergies emerging from HFP research.

The successful candidate will be committed to helping humanitarian organisations become more effective, and have a demonstrable interest in the work of the HFP. He or she will have at least 3 years experience in managing programmes and projects, including effective financial management skills. Equally importantly, they will have the enthusiasm, flexibility and motivation to make the role their own and to play a central role in our small but committed team.

The appointment will be made on an appropriate point of the Grade 6 scale, (currently £33,070 - £35,922 per annum inclusive of London Allowance) depending on skills and qualifications. The post is initially for 4 months, but we would hope to be able to renew the contract dependent upon grant funding.

The closing date for receipt of applications is 1 September 2010. Interviews will be held on 8 September 2010 and we are looking for someone to start as soon as possible after that. The application pack can be downloaded from 18 August from the King’s College London website (http://www.kcl.ac.uk/jobs).

Please note that we can only consider candidates who have the existing right to work in the UK.
