General Functions:
Under the general supervision of the Regional Representative (RR) for East and Central Africa and the Migration Health Assessment Coordinator for Africa and the Middle-East, under the direct supervision of the Health Programme Officer responsible for regional coordination, in close consultation with relevant units at the IOM Missions with Regional Functions (MRF) in Nairobi and with migration health colleagues in Southern and East Africa, the successful candidate will manage public information activities within IOM's migration health programme in East Africa, and offer technical and strategic guidance to the MRF's Public Information Unit.
In particular, he/she will:
1. Lead the process of developing an Medical Health Department (MHD) section on the MRF Nairobi website, write and/or finalize the content, and routinely update MHD information.
2. Actively engage MHD colleagues in East Africa and Media and Public Information Unit Geneva, in order to facilitate development of press releases, information sheets, and other media for promotion of IOM's health activities in the region.
3. Lead the establishment and production of a serial MHD newsletter targeting governments, UN, RECs (Regional Economic Communities), IOM officials, and donors in the region, in collaboration with colleagues in MRF Pretoria,
4. Support MHD programme reporting in the region, including drafting of write-ups for trimester MRF reports and MHD Annual Reports. Proofread all IOM newsletters and press briefings, as well as website content where time permits.
5. Manage the MHD Digital Photo Library and promote the appropriate use of photography and other media in the programme; submit photographs to the global IOM image library.
6. Travel to MHD project sites, when requested, to observe activities and develop press briefings and related write-ups.
7. Serve as MHD team focal point in working with IOM procurement officers and publishing houses for production of health programme publications.
8. Develop working relationships with the UN-IRIN (Integrated Regional Information Networks), local, and international media for collaboration on advocating for the rights of migrants, increasing public awareness on migration issues, and promoting specific IOM activities.
9. Serve as the MRF focal point for strategic advice on issues of corporate image and branding, including on format of corporate information sheets, official correspondence, general appearance and content of website, and corporate image of IOM premises. Specifically:
a. Use of English language
b. Strategic and consistent use of fonts
c. Strategic, appropriate, and consistent use of IOM logo
d. Strategic and consistent use of IOM colour schemes
e. Appropriate MS Office and driver settings for A4 paper.
10. Provide strategic advice to the mission on the planning of donor meetings and similar events, as requested. Offer strategic and technical guidance to MRF Nairobi Public Information Unit, and liaise with IOM headquarters Public Information Unit.
11. Monitor and manage the content of IOM Information Packages, ensuring appropriate content and targeting.
12. Work closely with Public Information Team in MRF Pretoria, IOM missions in East Africa and the MRF units to ensure uniform knowledge and use of the IOM Corporate ID Manual (1998), Guidelines on IOM House Style and Usage (2005), and use of IOM Photography Guidelines.
13. Perform such other duties as may be assigned.
Desirable Qualifications:
Education and Experience
a) University degree in Journalism, Business Administration, Marketing, and/or Public Health; b) two years experience working in INGO, UN, or Intergovernmental Organizations; thorough knowledge of the functions of intergovernmental organizations; c) familiarity with the issues of migration (including irregular migration, public health, trafficking in persons) and the social drivers of health and HIV in Africa is a distinct asset; d) experience in writing and designing brochures, fact sheets and other promotional material, including experience of web management; e) experience in editing technical documents and production of materials targeting outside audiences.

Languages
Thorough knowledge of English. Working knowledge of French an advantage.
