The Prevention, Education and Communication Team will be in charge of the development and provision of tools, methods and services in the areas of prevention, health promotion and health communication, including training and education regarding the promotion of lifestyles that ensure healthy habits. It will advocate through communities, decision-makers, media and educational institutions and will support the efforts of all stakeholders and partners in building sustainable and growing resources and commitment for the awareness of determinants of health and the enhancement of whole of health approaches that address protection and risk factors impacting human health and development.
It will define more coordinated and strategic approaches in the use of tools and methods and provide expertise for their optimal use (e.g. strategic health communication, behaviour change communication [BCC], Stepping Stones, etc.) throughout PHD.
With respect to the communication function, the team will support two broad categories of communication: one that is ‘general’ and deals primarily with ‘messages’ that PHD as an organisation brings to the general public about its main activities and achievements, etc., and another that is focused on the promotion of health and specific communication related to education and prevention.
The position is responsible, for leading the team and will initially develop the PHD strategic plan for prevention, health promotion and health communication. It will then coordinate PHD approaches in developing tools, methods and services in the area of prevention, including training and education regarding the promotion of healthy lifestyles. The position supports the implementation of key regional strategies such as the Pacific Regional Strategy on HIV and STI Implementation Plan (PRSIP), the Pacific 2-1-22 NCD Framework and other regional programmes supported by PHD.
This position will be based in the SPC regional office in Suva.
The Prevention, Education and Communication Team Leader will initially be responsible to the PHD Manager, and subsequently will be responsible to the Health Advancement Unit Manager upon establishment of that unit under the revised structure.
