Position Description:
I-TECH is a global health program of the University of Washington (UW) and the University of California – San Francisco (UCSF). I-TECH’s administrative headquarters are at the UW in Seattle. I-TECH is funded primarily by grants from the US Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA), the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Global AIDS Program (GAP), and the US Agency for International Development (USAID). I- TECH was founded by HRSA in 2002 as a way to extend to developing countries HIV/AIDS clinical training resources and expertise generated domestically through programs such as the HRSA-funded AIDS Education & Training Centers network (AETC). The mission of I-TECH is to provide technical assistance for developing human and organizational capacity to provide clinical care and treatment for HIV/AIDS. I-TECH draws upon programs such as the AETC as well as from an extensive multi-disciplinary consultant database to identify collaborators.

The primary focus of the Clinical Advisor is to provide technical assistance in support of in-service and pre-service training of Técnicos de Medicina (TM) (physician assistants), in order to improve the quality of the HIV and AIDS care they provide.

Requirements:
• Physician with at least two years of HIV or out-patient experience; specialist in
infectious diseases preferred.
• Doctor of Medicine
• Demonstrated experience with health care training in varied settings.
• Thorough knowledge of clinical management of HIV.
• Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team-based structure.
• Ability to use problem solving skills and to successfully interface and communicate with individuals from a range of levels from headquarters and field office support staff, to health workers and government officials.
• Computer skills including Microsoft Word (intermediate-level or above) and PowerPoint. Ability to conduct internet searches for information.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with partners, staff and colleagues, with a high level of tact, cultural sensitivity, diplomacy and confidentiality.
• Fluency in Portuguese and English required.
• Prior project management experience considered a plus.
• Curriculum development experience considered a plus.
• Availability to travel within Mozambique frequently (up to 75% FTE) or if requested, to be placed permanently in a provincial capital.

Desired:
• Experience with health worker training and in HIV health care related issues

Conditions of Employment:
This is a full-time position is based at the I-TECH offices in Maputo, Mozambique or in a provincial capital within Mozambique. The job requires up to 75% travel to field sites in rural Mozambique as well as, potentially, to Seattle and other international locations. Travelers must be prepared to follow the UW and US government recommended precautions and prophylaxis for disease. The job requires occasional participation in telephone conference calls during the early morning and late evening to accommodate the time zones of the countries where I-TECH works. This position is eligible for relocation assistance and benefits. Non-Mozambican candidates will require a work permit be issued by the Government of Mozambique in order to establish residence in Mozambique. The position is dependent on issuance of this work permit prior to commencement of work in Mozambique.
