JOB DESCRIPTION
The West African Health Organisation (WAHO), the specialized health institution of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) is looking for a suitably qualified candidate to fill the following vacant position:

Job Title: Translator (Portuguese)

Number of Positions: 1
Grade: P4
Supervisor: Language Coordinator
Department: Administration and Finance

Duration: One year renewable

Duty Station: Bobo-Dioulasso, Burkina Faso

Job Overview:
Under the direct supervision of the Head of the Language Unit, the incumbent will be responsible for translating documents from English or French into Portuguese or vice versa usingappropriate terminology and tools.

Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Translating from English or French into Portuguese or vice versa, of correspondences and other documents such as reports, agreements, concept papers and summaries, frequently using terminology from  aIl  health related fields and others;
2. Identifying changes, new developments, inconsistencies and linguistic variations 111 the different terminology fields used in Communication and Information Technology;
3. Undertaking linguistic research and documentation on publications, inc1uding terminology and ensuring proper storage of the research outcomes and constant updating of terminology database and tools;
4. Using Computer-Aided Translation (CAT) tools and other Translation Memory or terminology processing technologies;
5. Working closely with other language colleagues in the language Unit to maintain and promote a consistent and standard use of terminology within WAHO;
6. Performing interpreting tasks during internal meetings;
7. Revising outsourced translations do ne by independent Portuguese translators
8. Performing any other tasks as may be assigned by Line Supervisor or Management

Age limit:
Candidates should be less than 50 years old at the point of recruitment and must be a citizen of one of the ECOWAS Member States.

Language:
Perfect command ofPortuguese Language and excellent knowledge of other official ECOWAS languages
