SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW AND EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT
National Policy Interagency Committee Secretariat
The National Research Institute (NRI) is shaping the future of Papua New Guinea through cutting edge policy research, the facilitation of public dialogue, and by influencing decision makers. It is exciting times at NRI and two positions have become available in the National Policy Interagency Committee (HPIC) Secretariat. This role will help shape PNG’s future housing market. NRI is the preeminent research organisation on PNG land issues which will complement your research as part of the HPIC.
SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOW – HOUSING POLICY
The Senior Research Fellow will lead and manage research into Government of Papua New Guinea’s housing reforms under the guidance of the Housing Policy Interagency Committee (HPIC). The successful applicant will:
• Undertake research and policy including synthesising previous research on housing policy issues, preparing working papers and background notes for the HPIC;
• Assisting the HPIC to develop a roadmap for reforming the housing market; and
• Managing the Secretariat budget
Skills and Attributes
The applicant should address the following selection criteria:
• highly developed policy skills in a relevant area such as economic analysis or public policy;
• sound understanding of the housing policy environment is essential and experience working on housing policy issues either in PNG (or another developing country) and/or internationally would be advantageous;
• well-developed presentation and interpersonal skills and have an ability to communicate complex policy issues to a broad range of stakeholders including government agencies, the private sector, non-government organisations and the general public; and
• have a sound knowledge of the PNG policy environment or an ability to quickly develop an understanding of the following government’s strategic documents would be advantageous: PNG vision 2050, the Development Strategic Plan 2010-2050, and the Development Strategic Plan 2010-2030.
This position will be paid on a Grade 17 position level and the HPIC is offering an attractive remuneration package including a vehicle to the right candidate. NRI welcomes applications from international applicants.
EXECUTIVE ASSISTANT
The Executive Assistant will be responsible for providing executive and administration support to the Senior Research Fellow. You will be responsible for organising meetings, helping to develop meeting agendas, organising workshops and seminars, taking minutes and providing executive support as required. This position will report to the Senior Research Fellow.
Skills and attributes
• at least five years experience in a similar role
• excellent time management and organisational skills
• experience with organising events/travel logistics
• basic reporting skills
• demonstrated strong work ethic
• a good team player with the ability to meet deadlines
• proficiency in MS Office Software programs
