Senior Foundations Officer

Background
Since 1989, the Women’s Refugee Commission has advocated vigorously for laws, policies and programs to improve the lives and protect the rights of refugee and displaced women, children and young people, including those seeking asylum—bringing about lasting, measurable change.

SCOPE OF WORK:
The Senior Foundations Officer will play a critical role in the Women’s Refugee Commission’s development operations (budget $6 million). Under the supervision of the Director of Development, the Officer’s primary duty will be to take ownership of foundation, corporate, national and international government funding; research and identification of new prospects, grant applications, reports, relevant budgets, timetables and stewardship. Performing as a key member of the three-person development team, the Officer will work closely with the Director of Development, program directors and program staff on these tasks and in helping to develop strategies to implement development goals. This position is ideal for an individual who brings energy and creativity, the ability to be flexible and responsive to the development’s department’s fast pace and a sincere belief in the mission of the Women’s Refugee Commission.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
• Manage and expand foundation, government and corporate fundraising and stewardship.
• Research, identify and cultivate new institutional and government prospects.
• Prepare high quality proposals, applications and reports.
• Work closely with Development Director and program team to plan funding strategies, including prospecting and renewal funding.
• Maintain and ensure foundation, corporate and government records (database records, computer files and paper files) are accurate and up to date in coordination with the Development Manager.
• Participate in other critical functions of the development department including developing budgets and analyzing revenues in coordination with the Women’s Refugee Commission Controller’s office.
• Supervise interns.
• Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:
• Bachelor’s degree;
• Minimum 7 years, non-profit fundraising experience with institutional and government grants and/or 7 years international non-profit work experience plus an interest and commitment to the humanitarian field;
• Demonstrated writing skills: the ability to successfully conceptualize, write, and edit proposals and reports;
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills: the proven ability to communicate and liaise effectively and diplomatically with colleagues across the organization;
• Superior organizational skills and attention to detail;
• Solid organizational and time-management skills: the ability to plan for and manage multiple projects while working in a fast-paced, detail oriented environment with strict deadlines;
• Flexible work attitude: the ability to be pro-active and work productively and independently as well as in a team within a collaborative, demanding environment;
• Excellent computer skills: facility with MS Word, Excel, and email/Internet software - Solid experience and understanding of fundraising software (Raiser's Edge) is preferred.
